I finally made it to Nasi Lemak Shop thanks a very kind friend who brought me there. I can personally confirm all the rave reviews that have been made of it are not unjustified in the least bit. Under the guidance of founder Colin Soh, the restaurant has quickly carved up a following among Nasi Lemak enthusiasts.
I like my Nasi Lemak to have the following criteria
- firm and fragrant rice
- crispy, savoury and flavourful tender chicken
- ikan bilis that are robustly flavourful and crunchy
- peanuts to have a good flavour and not burnt
- a spicy savoury sambal that has the consistency of a paste
- the sambal must NOT be watery and NOT sweet
There are some who like their sambal otherwise. That's perfect for them, just not for me.
The rice, cooked to perfection, exhibited a delightful firmness and a fragrant aroma that hinted at the meticulous preparation behind it. The fried chicken, a crucial component of any great Nasi Lemak, surpassed expectations. Tender and succulent, the real showstopper was the impeccably crispy skin, adding a delightful crunch to each bite. The only slight blemish was a few pieces of the ikan bilis were slightly hard and not crunchy.

Crispy chicken. Fried on demand to maintain the best quality. You can see the steam appear when you cut into the chicken.
The sambal here has a deep red hue and is a spicy pasty excellence, delighting my taste buds.
