Korean, Fried Chicken
There is actually an interesting story behind Oven & Fried Chicken Austin Heights. OFC combines two Korean chicken brands under one roof: OKKUDAK and SSALDAK. OKKUDAK specialises in chicken baked without oil, while SSALDAK takes the fried route, coating its chicken in rice flour rather than conventional wheat flour. So the restaurant is effectively bringing together Korea’s oven-baked and fried chicken traditions in one concept. :chatgpt-content-reference{index=”1″}
That explains the name rather neatly.
Oven & Fried Chicken.
We ordered the Fried Chicken Sampler, so this visit was firmly on the SSALDAK side of the equation. The platter gives you a chance to try the fried chicken in different forms and flavours.

For me, the spicy version was easily the better one.
The sauce gave the chicken enough sweetness, heat and savouriness to make each bite interesting without completely overwhelming the fried coating.

The original, on the other hand, tasted bland to me.
It had the crunch, but without the sauce there simply wasn’t enough flavour to keep me interested.
That was quite a contrast because OFC’s fried chicken is made using rice flour, which is intended to produce a lighter, crisper coating. The texture was there.
I just wanted more seasoning on the original.
So if I came back, I already know which side of the platter I would attack first.
Spicy.
No contest.
Fried Chicken Sampler – RM38.00
Service Charge – RM3.80
Total: RM41.80
MVX Score: 7.8/10
M – Meal Value
RM41.80 after service charge for a sampler is reasonable if you want to try several pieces and compare flavours. The spicy chicken worked well for me, although the original was too bland.
Score: 7.5/10
V – Venue
A casual Korean restaurant in Austin Heights with a comfortable setting suited to sharing chicken with a few people.
Score: 7.5/10
X – X-Factor
The concept itself is interesting: two Korean chicken brands brought together, one specialising in oven-baked chicken and the other in rice-flour fried chicken. Of what I tried, though, the spicy fried chicken was the clear winner.
