Assam Pedas, Pork-Free
Helmed by celebrity chef and published author Val Val, Crowncrust Cafe is a delightful showcase of her family’s favorite recipes. With a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients and well-executed cooking, every dish here feels like a comforting, home-cooked meal—with a touch of finesse.
We started with the Fish and Chips, featuring crispy, freshly cut fries and flaky pollock fish in a light, golden batter. The tangy coleslaw on the side added a refreshing balance to the dish.
Next, the Chicken Chop impressed with its juicy tenderness, served with a choice of black pepper or mushroom sauce. While both were flavorful, I would have preferred a slightly thicker consistency for the sauce to really coat the meat.
A standout dish was the Assam Pedas Ayam, a unique offering that I would gladly return for. The perfectly spiced, tangy gravy paired beautifully with fragrant jasmine rice and a side of crunchy acar, making each bite a burst of flavor.
Portions are generous, and service is impressively fast, ensuring a satisfying dining experience. And of course, no visit would be complete without indulging in Val Val’s famous cakes. The Burnt Cheesecake was lusciously creamy with a caramelized top, while the Rich Moist Chocolate Cake was every bit as decadent as expected.
Whether you’re here for a full meal or just a slice of cake with coffee, Val Val’s Crowncrust Café delivers on taste, quality, and comfort—making it a spot worth revisiting
