Nyonya
tok panjang nyonya restaurant – opened just about a month ago at china st.
‘tok’ is table in hokkien and ‘panjang’ is long in malay, thus it means ‘long table. in theperanakan (nyona baba) culture, it refers to a lavish, ceremonial banquet l with traditional nyonya dishes, served during major celebrationson a long table.
yesterday we had lunch there. i was very surprised to find out that when i entered the restaurant, it was adjoining right to the interior of the state peranakan museum (inter-connected) which is located at church st (road parallel to china st).
there were 5 of us and we ordered 6 dishes. we also had, as complimentary nyonya kueh, 5 pieces and later on sago pudding. also on the house.
food here are a bit pricey but guess no surprise being such a restaurant.
