In Sechuan Restaurant Teluk Intan Family Dinner
Chiefeater Kane Chong had a RM366.20 family dinner at In Sechuan Restaurant in Teluk Intan and especially enjoyed the asam pedas kelapa ikan

Char Kuey Teow, Street Food
The Char Koay Teow at Kedai Kopi Soon Yuen tasted good.

There was plenty going on in the plate too — prawns, egg, bean sprouts and those darker savoury bits that make a plate of Penang Char Koay Teow so satisfying when everything comes together.

At RM9, I guess it’s par for the course in the Heritage Zone.
My issue was the texture. It was too dry for my liking.

I prefer my Char Koay Teow to retain a little more moisture and oil around the noodles. Not wet, certainly, but enough that the strands feel supple rather than dry.
That is personal preference rather than a technical failure.
The flavour itself was good and there was still plenty of fried goodness in the plate. If you prefer your Char Koay Teow drier, this version may suit you better than it did me.
I also had the white kopi, which was pretty good.

Char Koay Teow – RM9.00
White Kopi – I actually can’t remember now but do take note, they only take cash for drinks.
MVX Score: 7.2/10
M – Meal Value
RM9 for a plate with prawns, egg and plenty of ingredients is considered expensive in Penang but that’s what you will pay in the Heritage Zone. I enjoyed the flavour even though the drier texture wasn’t quite how I prefer my Char Koay Teow.
Score: 7.5/10
V – Venue
Soon Yuen is an old-school George Town kopitiam: busy, functional and very much about the food rather than comfort or ambience.
Score: 6.5/10
X – X-Factor
There wasn’t one element that completely distinguished this plate for me. What it delivered was a decent, well-priced serving of Penang fried goodness, with a pretty good cup of white kopi alongside it.
Score: 7.5/10
