Chiefeater Say Beng Teoh shares an early lunch of Mixed Rice at Restoran Pulau Pinang, known locally as 100 Hang

Hainanese, Chicken Chop, Pork-Free
“The secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside.”
Hailam flavours for lunch today at Johnny Boon Restaurant. Situated in a food court within a light industrial area, this pork-free restaurant is a popular place for lunch with the locals.

A waitress rumbled through a list of foods on offer when attending to us for orders. We opted for the fried hailam noodle, fried rice and chicken chop to be shared among us.
Food was served quickly, the hailam noodles was flavorful in a thick and sticky sauce, just to my liking.

The fried rice was light in colour, with a measly sprinkle of crispy ikan bilis on top. The fried rice was grainy, and full of wok hei.

The star of our food was the chicken chop, cut into bite-size strips, drenched in a brownish sauce, with bits of carrot, onion, green peas and chunks of tomato. A sunny side up fried egg and heaps of golden brown french fries completes the presentation of the chicken chop. Taste was reminiscence of old school yesteryear taste, which brings back childhood memories.

Price was reasonable, service was decent and polite, but parking might be a bit difficult during peak hours.
