Wantan Mee, Street Food
Lo Chan Kee Cantonese Wanton Noodles serves their namesake wanton mee with slices of char siew and wanton, along with a bowl of pleasantly flavoured soup. The fried wanton is an extra add-on.
The slices of char siew are lean and meaty with a nice sweet note. The wanton has a soft skin wrapping a soft and flavourful filling containing tiny bits of crunchy water chestnut. The fried wanton has a crispy skin wrapping a soft, meaty and flavourful filling containing bits of prawns. The tossed noodles is firm and springy with nice seasoning flavours and comes with some vegetables.
This serving of wanton mee tastes lovely, especially their fried wanton.
Of these two in Holland Drive Market, I still prefer the Malaysian Yap Kee at $5 per bowl. Lo Chan Kee tastes Cantonese enough, the lighter seasoning etc, and comes in a very respectable 6.5/10
One thing to note, all these ‘famous’ wanton mee offerings are either Hong Kong or Malaysian immigrants, and they all speak Cantonese (if that helps with the ambience)
