Chiefeater Jotaro Zen enjoyed blanched baby octopus with chilli-peanut sauce and Or-nee yam dessert at Restoran Teow Chew Meng

Lunch at Restoran Auntie Sim Kitchen in Damansara Uptown was a good time for five friends sitting down to a good lunch, flanked by even better company.
We ordered their signature tofu, tong po yuk, a stir-fried vegetable and their signature chicken rice.

Of particular note to one of our dining party was the chicken rice with the ginger condiment. He liked it so much that he just ate the rice with ginger. Both were really quite fragrant.

There wasn’t one particular dish that dominated the meal for me this time. Rather, it was one of those Chinese lunches where the dishes worked well together as a spread. The food was very good, and at RM395.15 for five people, the meal came to RM79.03 per person.
There was also a pleasant surprise at the end. I received a RM100 voucher towards my next meal at Auntie Sim Kitchen which is substantial enough to give me a pretty good reason to come back sooner than later.
A good lunch really is that simple: good food, a table of friends and another meal already beckoning.
Other than the dining hall downstairs, they have private rooms upstairs that can take 10 pax or more.
Meal for 5 pax – RM395.15
Total: RM395.15
Average per pax: RM79.03
MVX Score: 7.7/10
M – Meal Value
RM79.03 per person for a very good four-dish Chinese lunch sits above fair value for me.
Score: 8.0/10
V – Vibe & Venue
Auntie Sim Kitchen provides the basic comfort expected of an established air-conditioned Chinese restaurant. Parking around Damansara Uptown is not great, although The Starling Mall provides a nearby alternative.
Score: 7.0/10
X – X-Factor
The RM100 voucher was the unexpected extra. It isn’t a discount on today’s meal, but it is substantial enough to provide a compelling reason to return.
