Mee Siam
Some dishes lose points before the first bite, and this mee siam from Mr Chicken Rice Puchong Jaya had that problem. The colour simply did not inspire confidence when it arrived. It looked pale and a little lifeless, which is not quite what you want from a dish that usually leans bright, tangy and appetising.

To be fair, the taste itself was alright. The noodles carried enough flavour to get by, and there was a decent balance of sweetness, light acidity and savoury notes to make it edible without much complaint. It just never quite shook off that underwhelming first impression from the way it looked on the plate.
The bigger disappointment was actually the chicken. Since this is Mr Chicken Rice, we wanted to try their signature chicken alongside the mee siam. Unfortunately, it turned out somewhat meh. It was not bad in a dramatic way, but it lacked the kind of tenderness or flavour that would make you remember why the place has built its name around chicken in the first place. When the supposed signature component lands this softly, it makes the whole meal feel flatter than it should.

The asam bol on the side helped a little. It gave the meal an extra jolt of tartness and made more sense than the chicken did. Still, it was not enough to lift the dish into anything especially memorable.
In the end, this was one of those meals that was serviceable without being convincing. The mee siam tasted alright, but the dull-looking presentation and the rather uninspiring chicken stopped it from becoming a plate worth recommending strongly.
Hainan Chicken Mee Siam – RM13.90
Asam Bol – RM4.80
Subtotal: RM18.70
Service Charge (8%): RM1.50
Bill rounding: RM0.00
Total: RM20.20
MVX Score: 6.2/10
M – Meal Value
At RM20.20 for two items, the price is not unreasonable. The issue is that the food did not quite deliver enough enjoyment to make it feel like a particularly good buy. The mee siam was alright, while the chicken did not live up to the expectations of ordering from a place called Mr Chicken Rice.
Score: 6.0/10
V – Venue & Vibes
This was a simple casual eatery meal rather than a place built around atmosphere. The experience leans more on convenience and familiarity than charm.
Score: 6.5/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor, unfortunately, was how the chicken failed to stand out despite being the signature draw of the restaurant.
Score: 5.8/10
