北海 Sunway Carnival 附近,发现了这家 Nasi Kandar Beratur 786 分店。这个源自1943年的品牌,“Beratur”在马来文里是排队的意思,据说当年因为顾客天天大排长龙而得名;而“786”则是南亚穆斯林文化中的吉祥数字,因此成为品牌名称的一部分。
Near Sunway Carnival in Butterworth, I discovered this branch of Nasi Kandar Beratur 786. This brand dates back to 1943. “Beratur” means to queue in Malay, reportedly named because customers lined up in long queues every day back then; “786” is an auspicious number in South Asian Muslim culture, thus becoming part of the brand name.

一走进店里,员工统一穿着黑色工作服、黄色围裙,再配上爵士帽,整体感觉特别有型,也和一般嘛嘛档很不一样。

来到柜台前,各种各样的咖喱配菜看得人眼花缭乱,有肉类、有海鲜,也有各式蔬菜。从咖喱羊肉、咖喱牛肉、咖喱鸡,到咖喱苏东、炸鱼、鲜虾等,每一样都让人想夹进盘里。
Arriving at the counter, the wide variety of curry side dishes is dazzling, featuring meats, seafood, and assorted vegetables. From curry mutton, curry beef, and curry chicken to curry squid, fried fish, and fresh prawns, every single item makes you want to scoop it onto your plate.

原本想试试他们家最出名的招牌洋葱炸鸡(Ayam Bawang),可惜当时已经卖完,需要等待下一轮出炉。最后在店员的推荐下,选择了甘榜咖喱鸡,再搭配咖喱苏东和黄姜包菜。
I originally wanted to try their most famous signature onion fried chicken (Ayam Bawang), but unfortunately, it was already sold out at the time and required waiting for the next batch. In the end, under the staff’s recommendation, I chose the Kampung curry chicken, paired with curry squid and turmeric cabbage.
点了一份 扁担饭,配上冰柠檬茶,总共 RM31。

最精彩的当然是淋咖喱的环节!看着员工熟练地将各种不同风味的咖喱酱汁,一勺接一勺地淋在热腾腾的白饭上,直接变成“Banjir”(水灾版)咖喱饭,画面实在太疗愈了。
The most exciting part is definitely the curry drenching step! Watching the staff skillfully pour various flavors of curry sauces, scoop after scoop onto the steaming hot white rice, instantly turning it into a “Banjir” (flooded) curry rice, is truly a therapeutic sight.


甘榜咖喱鸡炖得软嫩入味,浓郁香料味完全渗透进鸡肉里;咖喱苏东鲜甜弹牙,吸满咖喱精华;黄姜包菜则带来淡淡香气与清爽口感。把各种咖喱汁拌匀后,每一口白饭都充满层次感,香辣、浓郁又特别开胃。
The Kampung curry chicken is stewed until tender and flavorful, with rich spice aromas fully penetrating the chicken meat; the curry squid is fresh, sweet, and springy, soaking up the core essence of the curry; the turmeric cabbage brings a subtle fragrance and a refreshing crunch. After mixing the various curry sauces together, every bite of white rice is filled with layers—spicy, rich, and exceptionally appetizing.

难怪 Nasi Kandar 可以从街边扁担挑卖,一路传承成为槟城最具代表性的美食文化之一。
No wonder Nasi Kandar could transition from being peddled on roadside shoulder poles to being passed down all the way as one of Penang’s most iconic culinary cultures.
