We got the entire duck at Quanjude Roast Duck Wangfujing, with wraps, which came in plain/ original and green/ vegetable versions. I personally prefer the green wraps. The duck itself was near faultless, and ‘fattier’ than the ones we get in ASEAN. The best/ prized crispy skin parts (chest area of the bird) we usually dip in sugar (which was presented as an option), but how it was expressed ; as a skin sandwich with foie gras in the middle – was superb. For this decadent starter, the score is easily 8/10. The rest of the duck, a solid 7.5/10.

The duck soup with cucumber and goji berries was also refreshing at 7/10. Next the other ‘star’ dish, or rather, star ingredient.

Lamb is featured quite widely on tables all over Beijing – and today – we had the sliced lamb with cumin and coriander. The waffs coming from the kitchen was so inviting, we could detect the dish about 5-10mins before it was even plated and served! This was easily 7.5/10. For non-lamb lovers like myself – this is high praise.

The sweet and sour duck (yes, not the usual pork) was good at 6.5/10.

The garlic stir fried broccolini was also good at 6.5/10

Overall a positive experience at this iconic roast duck restaurant – coming in at a solid 7/10 overall. Dependable and robust experience throughout. The best roast duck? Maybe not, but if you want a predictable (above average) experience – you can’t go wrong here.
