Taipei Walker Cafe Rio Puchong Hotpot

If you read the reviews on Facebook and Google complaining about the service quality, you would not want to come to Taipei Walker Cafe Rio Puchong. However, our experience with the food here would suggest it would have been an opportunity lost if we had give this a miss.

Let’s start with the obvious issues. The foreign staff could give you a problem if you don’t know how to stand your ground. For example, we watched them clear the food off the table of customer even while the customer was eating but if you stop them from carrying it away, they will put it down. There obviously is a queue of customers coming in here. Could the foreign staff be more courteous? Yes. But my guess is they lack the vocabulary to communicate with the customers.

We arrived at 6 pm, just as the doors opened and were quickly directed to a seat and made our orders quickly. We ordered a 士林香鸡抹  - Deep Fried Chicken Chop (RM12.90++)  and a 什锦酸菜白肉火锅 - Pork Fillets Sauerkraut Hot Pot with Minced Pork on Rice (RM24.90++)

The Chicken Chop was well seasoned, crisp and fried to a golden brown glow. It was hot and went down well into my tummy. The Hotpot that my wife ordered is actually a mini hotpot dish that’s meant for one but actually can be shared by another person too if he already a chicken chop earlier. The soup in the hot pot was flavourful and the ingredients that came with the hotpot was fresh. When the soup was running low, the waiters promptly topped it up. At RM24.90++, I think you would be hard pressed to find a better value for money meal in Puchong.

All in, the food and a single serving of Japanese green tea (which 2 people can drink) came up to RM51.80 for the two of us.

PSA - Service hours are 11:30 am to 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm and I would advise coming at the start of the service hours. Don’t go towards the last 45 minutes of their service. Taipei Walker Cafe Rio Puchong is not a place for you to eat slowly and enjoy a slow chat. You go in, you order, you eat, you leave. Go over to Boink to chat after you had your meal here.

The ++ is for a 10% service charge and the 6% SST.
