Vietnamese, Bun Rieu, Non-Halal
Revisiting Bun Viet Restaurant in Bandar Puteri Puchong, I had a desire to try something new. Remembering that Chiefeater Eddie Low had raved about Bun Rieu, that's what I chose to order.
Bun Rieu, is a Vietnamese noodle soup characterized by its unique broth and varied ingredients. Unlike its more renowned counterpart, Pho, Bun Rieu's broth boasts a slight tomato-infused essence. While my taste buds anticipated a sour note commonly associated with tomato-based soups, the broth surprised me by steering clear of excessive tartness.
Accompanying the bowl of Bun Rieu was a purple-hued condiment, piquing my curiosity. Delving into the nuances of Vietnamese cuisine, I discovered that this condiment was a shrimp sauce paste called Mam Tow, adding depth and savoury richness to the broth. A word of caution: its concentrated flavour meant that dipping required a measured approach, ensuring a symphony of flavours without overwhelming the palate.
Vietnamese Coffee
As with any culinary exploration, personal preferences play a significant role, and the Bun Rieu at Bun Viet Restaurant offers a departure from the familiar. As a foodie, I have to remain open to embark on a discovery of new flavours.
