Venturing into the original Jalan Merak section of Bandar Puchong Jaya led me to Golden House Pork Noodle. They operate in the morning and occupy the same lot as Restoran Foo Lai which opens at night.
Pork Noodles is a dish that Jen enjoys. She ordered a bowl of pork noodles with deep-fried vermicelli, but our experience fell short due to a key ingredient missing on Mondays — pork liver. The absence of pork liver, which typically imparts a rich flavour to the broth, was evident as soon as we took our first sips. The broth lacked depth and character, leaving the pork noodles without that desired "x factor." The strips of pork were a bit hard but the minced meatballs were actually quite good.
A pleasant surprise came with the intestine, which turned out to be the highlight of the dish. The texture was delightfully springy, avoiding the undesirable powdery consistency, and the taste was savoury without any bitter undertones.
In hindsight, visiting on a Monday was not ideal for experiencing the full potential of Golden House Pork Noodle. Priced at RM15 for a bowl of noodles and two drinks, the value was reasonable, but the experience could have been more satisfying with the complete flavour profile of the broth intact.
For those eager to savour the complete dish, it's advisable to plan your visit on any day but Monday when all ingredients are available to ensure a more fulfilling culinary experience.
