Farmer Express Zhai Up Vegetarian

Vegetarian, Pork-Free

Description

Post by Typing Monkey

If you had asked me out to a vegetarian place last year, I would have given you the stinky face and rudely asked you to shut up (kidding, I'm usually polite and understand social cues). But lately, I've tried a few on the account that my mother-in-law is a vegetarian and I usually am not disappointed. Recently we went to Farmer Express Zhai Up Vegetarian in PJ.

We had;-

Mushroom Satay
I LOVE THIS. It tasted meaty and exactly like sate. But deep fried. Too bad I forgot to take photo.

Vegetarian Char Siew
The closest I would get to eating pork I guess (LOL). Sweet, sticky and smokey. Me likey.

Vegetable
I can't remember the name, but it's 4 types of vegetables in some sort of belacan sauce. I like it, and the whole time I was thinking so hard about how they make vegetarian belacan. Where would they get the 'stankiness' from? But no complaints, all good.

Vegetarian Duck Thai Style
The mock duck at Farmer Express Zhai Up was simple and appropriately fried. The sauce was the one that bring out the 'thai' flavor. Serai and kantan flavor all around.

Pumpkin Cereal
I was excited about this but it was just a few deep-fried pumpkins in a mountain of cereal, I think this feels more like an appetizer or food for kids because it's quite dry. I don't mind it tho.

Vegetarian Assam Fish
A bit too sweet for my liking.

Does any of these items taste healthy just because they are vegetarian? Hell nah. Do I enjoy them? Yeah.

PRICE
The bill came up to RM133 for 4 of us. We don't mind it.

SERVER
I LOVE the uncle that took our order. He feels like family. Initially, we spoke in English and he had to ask another server to help us. But when we started speaking in Malay, he was more at ease and looked more comfortable.

AMBIANCE
The door is so tinted, but inside it's welcoming and bright.

PARKING
Pretty bad. You can park somewhere near the residential area behind and take a bit of a walk. It is within walking distance to Taman Bahagia LRT station.
