We were in search of the Klang bkt zeitgeist - herbal, thick soup bases of legend. The opinion was that Four Eyes BKT would make the cut today. Upon arriving at Klang, we were deterred by the snaking queues in front of BKT. A few metres down the road, right next to Restoran 168 Kopitiam, was a ‘lonely’ Lao Heong. Lonely bcos it looked like a safe haven amidst the pandaemonium at Four Eyes and 168.
We were the only table of 10 pax, to the glee of the Lao Heong owner. We literally ordered ‘everything’ they had on the menu.
Apparently their secret sauce is their tendons and herbal packed soup base. The former, ok, understandable. The latter I would have thought every other Klang BKT establishment would say.
The pork tummy and balls are a little unique as well.
That being said I found the soup base a little too salty and ironically, a little too diluted (without the Klang level herbaceousness I was expecting ).
The claypot dry BKT was refreshing. They had dried shrimp & okra to add to the spice - which was refreshing. Not sure the dry version of BKT originated in Klang.
Still, being in BKT capital - rather being able to survive in Klang offering BKT - Lao Heong comes in a strong 6.5/10.
