Fried Rice, Street Food, Non-Halal
Vui’s Fried Rice is a stall that operates within Restoran Kam Heong and is helmed by an ex-Din Tai Fung chef. Vui’s Fried Rice uses the short grain rice favoured by North Asians. As far as fried rices are concerned – this was a reenactment of Din Tai Fung’s version (for me), and at RM9 per plate – it was a steal.
Personally – I prefer the HK and Malaysian style fried rice variants eg HK has yangzhou style and M’sia has tai chow style – both versions with abundance of wok hei. But as far as egg fried rice goes – even Uncle Roger would approve of Vui’s. As would most Din Tai Fung fried rice lovers (yes it’s a cult).

This comes in a solid 7.5/10.
The Kam Heong coffeeshop of old (at least in my memory) has certainly been upgraded with these new anchor tenants. No wonder it’s packed daily and making PJ new town a (still) vibrant place for F&B.
