Big Breakfast, Non-Halal
Chiefeater Paula Tan and Chiefeater Jolene Sim had both highly recommended the breakfast at The Hungry Lab, so I decided to give it another shot. My last experience wasn’t great, but I chalked that up to ordering the wrong thing. This time, I went with a clear goal in mind—the All Day Breakfast (RM38.80).
The plate arrived generously filled with two pork sausages, bacon strips, ham, a hash brown, half a grilled tomato, sautéed mushrooms, scrambled eggs, two slices of bread with cranberry butter, and a side of salad greens. While most of the components were spot on, I couldn't help but feel that the salad greens seemed a bit out of place. It felt like they were there more for aesthetic reasons than to complement the hearty breakfast spread.
The pork items, however, were enjoyable — flavourful sausages, crisp bacon, and well-prepared ham. The hash brown added that satisfying crunch, and the sautéed mushrooms were nicely seasoned.
The eggs, though tasty, were slightly more curdled than I typically prefer.
I also wasn’t a fan of the cranberry butter — it had a sweetness that felt jarring with the rest of the dish.
Jen, on the other hand, found her rose latte (RM14) quite pleasing. The floral notes from the rose syrup gave the latte a unique twist that she appreciated. The added latte art of chinese characters on it added to her liking of it.
