Kai See Hor Fun, Taugeh, Non-Halal
Since we were in Ipoh, it only made sense to try the famed Kai See Hor Fun, so we headed to the new premises of Ann Xin Taugeh Chicken on Jalan Raja Ekram. Considering how many eateries the area has, we were pleasantly surprised to find a parking spot and a table without much fuss. A small victory in itself!

I ordered the Kai See Hor Fun, and while it was a competent bowl, it didn’t quite meet my expectations. The broth, typically enriched with prawn oil for that distinct, aromatic punch, was on the milder side. It lacked the depth and richness that I had hoped for, with the prawn oil presence barely noticeable. That said, the noodles were cooked well, and the shredded chicken was tender.

What really stood out for me, though, was the simple yet perfect dish of taugeh. The bean sprouts, plump and crunchy, had a wonderful texture that complemented the meal. Fresh, lightly seasoned, and with just the right amount of bite, it was a reminder of how even the simplest ingredients can be so enjoyable when done right.
