Jiu Mu & Xiao Gu Restaurant in Bukit Mertajam is truly a hidden gem in every sense of the word. Located on the ground floor of a low-cost apartment in the middle of a densely populated housing area on the outskirt of the town. No apartment name, no shop signboard either.

However, the food here is just as good if not better than many of the more well-known and popular shops elsewhere. The portion is generous and the price is low. Moreover, the place is clean and the service is fast and friendly. It is operated by Ms Khor and her sister together with their two assistants. They learned this food trade from their father who had retired. Selling Hokkien mee, loh mee, curry mee, jawa mee and nasi lemak has been their family trade for more than four decades.
Curry mee with lots of tau pok and fried shallots. Served in a deep black melamine bowl.

Loh mee with deep fried bean curd skin (tau kee). This is seldom found elsewhere.

Jawa mee served in a bowl instead of a plate and comes with a whole calamansi lime (limau kasturi).

Nasi lemak Set A01, with curry chicken, potatoes, big prawn, hard boiled egg, long beans, anchovies, groundnuts and sambal.

Set A03, with two big prawns, hard boiled egg, potatoes, anchovies, groundnuts, long beans and sambal.

Nasi lemak Set A04, with curry pork ribs, fried egg, anchovies, groundnuts and sambal.

Curry pork ribs, ordered as a side dish, RM8.00 per serving. The pork melts in our mouth and the curry gravy tantalizes our taste buds.

Personally, it is worth my long drive to enjoy the food here at Jiu Mu & Xiao Gu Restaurant.
