Teochew, Steamed Fish, Non-Halal
Back at Paradise Teochew Takashimaya. Most of the fishes steamed in KL are HK style - soya sauce. Singapore and Bangkok are the only 2 cities with more Teochews in the mix. As such, the Teochew style steam is prominent.
To be honest, growing up in KL I’ve never had a better steamed fish vs the ones at home . Until today. Paradise Teochew Takashimaya did a decent job with the Hooked grouper. (Yes that’s the species). But at SGD320 per fish - it doesn’t come cheap! I’ve not had a better Teochew (or any steamed) fish for a while. Pure brilliance at 8/10.
The cold crab starter (SGD100) - quintessentially Teochew was a standard 7/10. The roe was rich and dipped with the ginger soya condiment - it was on point. Again, another ‘less popular’ dish in KL but here in Singapore, Ah Hoi’s at Mosque street (albeit 15 years ago) comes close.
Maybe because we struck it big with the dishes - the captain allowed us free corkage.
The Yangzhou fried rice is a 6/10 - left in the dust by Imperial’s.
The tofu and pork tummy soup were above average as usual - 7/10
Overall 7.5/10 experience today at Paradise Teochew bcos we went big with the fish and crab. Live a little.
Total SGD723 for 3 pax.
