The Spot Lunch Sets
Western, Non-Halal
Description

With so many dining options for our picking in Singapore, it can get really hard to find a place that does it all. But we may have found a strong contender with The Spot at Marina One. As an all-day dining spot (pun totally intended; it’s actually the reason behind the name), it caters to the bustling CBD crowd from morning till past sundown.
Helming the kitchen is Chef Lee Boon Seng, formerly from Osia and Curate, and you will find most of dishes here use Asian ingredients while showcasing European cooking techniques. Complex yet familiar in taste, the dishes are as exciting as they are comforting.
One of The Spot’s special features is South East Asia’s first The Macallan Boutique @ 1855 where diners can opt to try a guided flight tasting hosted by a Boutique Associate at the in-house bar. There’s also an extensive range of limited edition Macallan bottles and merchandise at this flagship boutique. Since its right below my office - it’s become one of our ‘canteens’ in Marina One.
The lunch sets are actually pretty good, the 2 course and 3 course options. Since 2022, I’ve been having the chargrilled octopus as a starter. Never disappoints! I love the zesty and zingy apple, lime sauce drizzle. The tentacles are always well grilled with the requisite char (still succulent and chewy inside). There’s the carpaccio and tartare starters as well- but the octopus has been a staple on the menu for the past 3 years! That’s saying something. 7/10.
I’d usually for go for the pork loin/chops, the steak cuts or lobster pasta for mains- but today, it was the golden snapper that caught my eye. Actually, unfair statement - I’ve seen it many a time, just thinking to myself “ I can cook that at home”. Today I really went for it, to the server’s chagrin. The "coconutty" sauce was above all my expectations. Fish done this way, with a little "tomyummy" spice/bite rounded off with the balancing milky and nutty flavours. Superb. Made with a blend of lemongrass, blue and yellow ginger, green chilli, coconut cream, kaffir lime leaves, and Thai belachan, the complex emulsion was intensely fragrant. The dish tasted exactly like traditional Thai green curry, except punchier. This came in also at 7/10.
These are strong (>50x freq) 7s, consistent over the years. If you’re on a budget but want to treat yourself to an indulgent meal, this is The Spot for you.
