Yong Tau Foo, Street Food
I found myself at Yi Jia Kopitiam on the second floor of Wisma Merdeka, seeking out a quick lunch, and decided to sample their Ngiu Chap (Beef Noodle Soup) since the reviews said it was good.

I ordered the Ngiu Chap Special with fine noodles (RM15). The beef cuts and components, like the tendon, were certainly there, but alas, the broth was just too light for my liking. For a Ngiu Chap, I look for a more robust, earthy soup base, and this one didn't quite deliver the depth I was hoping for. If a light broth is what you are looking for, then this is for you.

However, the side order of Yong Tau Foo saved the day. Thankfully Jen had spotted this signboard and wanted to try their YTF.

She picked the Stuffed Eggplant (RM2.50 per piece). The piece was sizeable and coated in a delightful, thick, savoury sauce. Despite potentially being made without pork, the paste itself was full of flavour. More importantly, the texture was the way I like it. It was dense and "full of bite," creating a satisfying contrast to the soft eggplant flesh. This is the one item here that rewarded me for the the effort of finding this spot.

Ngiu Chap Special (Small with Fine Noodle) - RM15.00
Stuffed Eggplant Yong Tau Foo - RM2.50/pc
Score: 7.4/10
M – Meal Value
RM17.50 for a full meal and two sides in a mall setting is fair. The YTF is excellent value at RM2.50 for the quality.
Score: 7.7/10
V – Venue & Vibes
It’s a functional, brightly lit food court setup on the second floor. Clean but utterly devoid of atmosphere; you come here to eat and leave.
Score: 6.5/10
X – X-Factor
The Yong Tau Foo, specifically the stuffed eggplant, is the hidden gem here. Its flavour and firm "bite" make it worth the trip for me, even if the Ngiu Chap disappoints.
Score: 8/10
Located on the 2nd floor, Wisma Merdeka Phase 2. Exact closing hours are likely consistent with the mall's food court schedule.
