Hunan
I recently had dinner at Luckypot in SS2, Petaling Jaya, an establishment specializing in authentic Hunan cuisine because Chiefeater Jon Besar arranged to dine here. The restaurant is known for its bold flavors and large, sharing-style claypots that are characteristic of the region's culinary traditions.
The meal began with a starter of fried mushrooms that packed a significant spicy wallop, immediately setting the tone for the robust flavors to follow.

The Taro Fish Pot was another standout; the Thai tilapia used in the dish had a lovely crunchy texture that paired well with the broth. I particularly liked the thickness and depth of the soup, which had its velvety texture enhanced by the taro.

The braised pork was alright.

The grilled lamb was flavorful.

I also really enjoyed the prawns, which were generously covered in a savory salted egg batter.

Crispy Mushrooms: RM18
Taro Fish Pot: RM98
Hunan Fried Lamb (small): RM40
Braised Pork: RM40
Salted Egg Baked Prawns: RM45
Score: 7.83/10
M – Meal Value
The portions here are quite substantial, designed for group sharing. Given the quality of the fresh seafood and the depth of the Hunan-style broths, the pricing offers very good value for a family or group dinner.
Score: 8.0/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The restaurant features a modern, clean, and bright interior though each table is located in close proximity to one another. It’s a bustling and lively spot (you can read it as noisy), perfect for a casual but high-quality communal dining experience in the heart of SS2.
Score: 7.5/10
X – X-Factor
The true X-factor is the consistency of all the dishes. All were more than competent and none were bad.
