Hokkien Mee
My visit to the Kuchai Lama branch of Damansara Uptown Hokkien Mee turned out to be a meal of mixed highlights. This established name is known for its mission to preserve the culture of local roadside food stalls, focusing on traditional KL Hokkien Mee.

While the Hokkien Mee was tasty and carried a rich aroma, I found the noodles to be a bit too wet for my personal preference. However, the prawns included in the noodles were excellent, being fresh and well-prepared. The fried lard was too finely diced to make a crunchy impact.

The true standout for me, surprisingly, was the vegetable dish—Stir-Fried Baby Romaine (Yau Mak) with Fried Shallots. I actually enjoyed the fresh crunch and savory shallots of the vegetables more than the main noodle dish.

Hokkien Mee (2 pax) - RM29.80
Stir-Fried Vegetable (2 pax) - RM22.90
Score: 7.0/10
M – Meal Value
The pricing has been adjusted upwards as they have moved from roadside stalls to established shoplots. While RM29.80 for a 2 pax portion of Hokkien Mee is higher than average hawker prices, the quality of premium add-ons like the prawns helps maintain the value.
Score: 7.0/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The Kuchai Lama outlet provides a more comfortable and structured dining environment compared to the brand's roadside origins. It is a reliable spot for a late-night meal, though it lacks some of the character found at the original headquarters.
Score: 7.0/10
X – X-Factor
The noodle texture varies toward the wetter side, however, the quality of side dishes like the perfectly fried shallots on the vegetables was a high point.
