MOTD

Description

Post by Chiefeater VK

Finding a vibrant dining hotspot hidden within a light industrial area is always an adventure, and MOTD (Meal Of The Day) just off Lebuhraya Bukit Jalil delivers exactly that surprise. Tucked into an unassuming factory row, the venue reveals itself at night with bold neon branding and a sleek, concrete-brushed minimalist interior.

Access is a breeze if you are approaching from the Bukit Jalil side, though for most diners originating from Puchong, navigating here requires a rather major u-turn. The extra effort, however, pays off handsomely.

The plates are heated before they place it on the table.

The kitchen shows real capability across their casual contemporary menu. We started with the humble Edamame, which arrived with a brilliant twist—thoughtfully roasted to introduce a charred, smoky depth that completely breaks away from the standard boiled fare.

For the main meal, the half portion of grilled Szechuan-inspired chicken was a win. The meat remained remarkably moist and tender under a spice rub that carried a gentle, creeping mala numbness, cleverly balanced with a hint of sweetness. While my personal preference leans away from sweetness in a savory rub, it was still highly enjoyable.

This Y station Riesling was a good complement to the chicken. At RM32 a glass and RM59 for two, the offer wasn’t compelling for me to have a second glass.

The Wagyu Slider also made a solid impression. The beef patty was slightly looser in texture (it’s Wagyu after all) than I usually prefer, but it successfully compensated with a deep, unmistakable hit of rich beef flavor packed between a glossy brioche bun.

Capping off our two-hour dinner which was pleasantly accompanied by live Canto and Mando-pop, a layer-cake creation of Yuzu Matcha provided a clean, bright citrus finish against the earthy green tea notes.

Supported by remarkably warm service and a charming, unpretentious live acoustic set, it’s easy to see why diners were still streaming through the doors well past 10:00 pm on a Sunday night.

MVX Summary

Score: 8.0/10

M – Meal Value
The bill hits the premium casual benchmark at RM85 per head, but the utility remains high given that you are paying for an integrated entertainment experience. The precision of the kitchen, particularly with the roasted edamame and quality wagyu beef, justifies the spend.
Score: 7.5/10

V – Venue & Vibes
The industrial-chic layout is executed beautifully, using moody lighting, acoustic ceiling baffles, and polished concrete to craft a sophisticated drinking and dining den. The addition of a live acoustic performer creates a highly relaxed, unhurried vibe that encourages lingering.
Score: 8.5/10

X – X-Factor
The X-factor is the sensory contrast of the location. Stepping out of a light industrial manufacturing street and walking directly into a polished, high-energy live music lounge with well-crafted cocktails and charred edamame creates a memorable “hidden oasis” element.
Score: 8.0/10
