Ipoh Ipoh Cafe SS2 Dry Curry Mee

Dry Curry Mee

Description

Post by Chiefeater VK

The Dry Curry Mee at Ipoh Ipoh Cafe SS2 was tasty, but the thing I appreciated most was actually the noodles.

They use wantan mee for their Dry Curry, and importantly, they got the texture right. The noodles were still properly al dente, with a nice springiness and bite instead of being cooked until they became a soft mush.

That made quite a difference once everything was mixed together with the curry.

The curry itself was creamy and savoury, coating the noodles nicely, with shredded chicken and char siew adding to the bowl. The char siew was quite decent too, with enough flavour and texture to hold its own against the curry.

It sounds like a small thing, but noodle texture matters to me. You can have a tasty curry, but once the noodles go soft, much of the enjoyment disappears.

No such problem here.

For me, the reason to order it again is simple. Ipoh Ipoh Cafe SS2 serves a tasty Dry Curry Mee and, just as importantly, they know not to overcook their wantan mee.

Good crowd even though it was early in the morning.

MVX Summary

MVX Score: 8.5/10

M – Meal Value
At RM18.50, the Dry Curry isn’t particularly cheap for a noodle dish, but the portion was satisfying and the execution of the noodles made it enjoyable. The char siew was quite decent too.
Score: 8.5/10

V – Venue
Ipoh Ipoh Cafe SS2 is bright, clean and comfortable, with air-conditioning and a more polished setting than the traditional kopitiam environment usually associated with these dishes.
Score: 8.5/10

X – X-Factor
The wantan mee texture did it for me. It remained al dente underneath the curry instead of becoming a soft mush. Sometimes getting something that basic right makes all the difference.
Score: 8.5/10
