Dae Bak Jip BBQ Bukit Jalil Serves Generous Portions

Description

Post by Chiefeater VK

There was a lot of food on the table at Dae Bak Jip BBQ Bukit Jalil, and when the final bill came to RM176 for four people, lunch felt like a pretty good deal.

We ordered the Gangnam Set, which gave us a generous spread of Korean food rather than making the meal entirely about the BBQ. There was grilled pork, bibimbap, kimchi stew, Korean pancake, steamed egg and the usual collection of banchan filling up the table.

The food overall was pretty decent, but the pork belly was what I liked best. Between the different pork preparations, there was plenty of meat to go around, with the fattier cuts having that combination of browned edges, savoury flavour and juicy fat that makes Korean BBQ so satisfying.

Jen particularly liked the bibimbap. Served in a large metal bowl with vegetables, rice, egg and the usual Korean seasonings mixed through, it was another substantial dish to share rather than something that felt like an afterthought to the meat.

The kimchi pancake was nicely browned around the surface, while the bubbling kimchi stew and steamed egg added more variety to what was already quite a large spread. Add all those little bowls of banchan around the table and it became one of those meals where you are constantly reaching for something different.

What stood out most wasn’t any single spectacular dish. It was simply how much food we got for the money and how comfortably it fed four of us.

At RM44 per person all-in, Dae Bak Jip BBQ made a convincing case for a reasonably priced Korean lunch in Bukit Jalil.

RM176 all-in for four people was very decent value considering the generous servings and variety in the Gangnam Set. There was more than enough food for us, and it works out to only RM44 per person including drinks and service charge.

V – Venue
A casual Korean restaurant at Aurora Place in Bukit Jalil. Comfortable enough for a leisurely group lunch and particularly suited to the communal nature of Korean BBQ.
Score: 7.5/10

X – X-Factor
The generous set is the attraction here. You get BBQ meats alongside bibimbap, pancake, stew, steamed egg and plenty of banchan, making it an easy option when eating with a group. The pork belly was my pick of the meal.
