Ee Loong Delifood in Bukit Mertajam is a family-run enterprise that offers more than 20 types of steamed buns (pau/bao). All these buns with various types of fillings are handmade in the shop itself and not mass produced with machines.
Personally, the buns here are among the most delectable ones in Penang. The dough layer of the buns is light, fluffy and it does not stick to the palate of our mouth. The fillings are very tasty; the pork and chicken meat used are not too fatty, the red bean, pumpkin, yam paste are not factory-produced and the vegetable fillings are not soggy.
Cranberry buns and coffee buns are among the more than 20 types of buns available here.
Various types of buns with different fillings indicated by the colour dots on the dough.
Besides steamed buns, sticky glutinous rice (loh mai kai) is also sold here.
Freshly hand-made buns, just brought out from the back section of the shop where they are made.
Red bean buns (tau sar pau). The red bean filling is very authentic and we can taste its fibrous texture.
Small pork bun (bak pau), the pork is sliced not minced. It is not too fatty either.
Jicama buns (mangkuang pau), the vegetable filling is not soggy, the right crunchiness is still there.
Barbecued pork bun (char siew pau), small firm pieces of barbecued pork, not minced and not too sweet.
Big pork bun (tua pau), sizeable pieces of pork, egg and Chinese sausage in it. Generous amount of filling making it a full meal for most.
Sticky glutinous rice (loh mai kai) is just as good. Not too oily nor salty. The rice is soft, the chicken and pork pieces tender.

The freshness of the buns is a given here because they are always sold out by early afternoon every day. It is best to call a day earlier if you have a big order and do not want to be disappointed, especially during the Chinese festive days.
