Chiefeater Jaimy Yee had spicy egg, Balinese curry rice and red wine grilled chicken at 3 Leg Cat Cafe and enjoyed all three

Craving a glass of Borneo 1602, I made my way over to El Centro, a familiar and reliable spot in Kota Kinabalu. This time, it was just a casual meal—but one that delivered more than expected. I thought the lager was a bit flat compared to the pale ale I had the last time.

Jen ordered the beef steak quesadilla (RM32), and from the very first bite, it was clear this was a winner. She quickly ranked it among the most enjoyable quesadillas she’s had. The winner was in generous filling of tender, well-seasoned beef and chewy cheese that melded beautifully without overpowering the meat.

I had the ground beef burrito, and while the taste was solid—rich, spiced ground beef with that satisfying Mexican warmth—the structure didn’t quite hold. The burrito casing gave way too easily, which made eating it a bit of a messy affair. Still, the flavours were all there.

If you’re heading to El Centro for a casual night out or just a drink with food, I’d strongly recommend the quesadilla. It’s well-executed, flavourful, and satisfying.
