City folk running away from the steamy heat of the Klang Valley often head up to Fraser's Hill to enjoy cool mountain air in quiet surroundings. As a proud city slicker myself, I'm no exception. On an early weekend morning, I meet up with a small group of fellow two-wheeled enthusiasts and rumble up the road to the renowned hill station past Kuala Kubu Bharu town.
Along the way, we stop by the Sungai Selangor Dam for a break. There's a nice vista at Empangan Sungai Selangor View Point of the reservoir far below and rolling hills stretching into the distance. The viewing area has been cleaned up so it has small concrete tables and chairs, and plenty of close-mown grass to pitch a tent or a tarp on. And there's also a van serving proper espresso-machine coffee, thanks to the crew at HITVM Coffee.
I order a hot latte - yes, it's nice to have a warm drink in the chill morning air - and the friendly proprietor fires up a generator to run the coffee machine. It's a strong double-shot cup to pop your eyes wide open. There are also cold coffee drinks and a cold brew, with most drinks being under the RM10 mark.
Have a cuppa, maybe with some bread or local snacks that you hopefully packed along, and then continue your journey up the hill. The HITVM Coffee van is usually parked at the Sungai Selangor Dam site on weekend mornings while it's in Cheras on weekday nights. The guys are also available for event bookings.
