YTF at Segambut Yong Tau Foo
Yong Tau Foo, Street Food

Chiefeater Pat Lim found the YTF at Segambut Yong Tau Foo to better than he had expected

Hakka
Hakshan Bandar Puteri Puchong, is one of my go to places to order Hakka dishes. This time I ordered their abacus seeds and their YTF.
The Abacus Seeds (RM25) were a highlight of the order. They were perfectly chewy and very tasty, reflecting the traditional preparation method that ensures a good bite and depth of flavour.

I also sampled their Yong Tau Foo (YTF). The quality was certainly there; the meat filling was chunky and flavourful, clearly made with premium ingredients. However, the pricing was a significant deterrent. At RM40 for just 8 pieces, it was exceptionally expensive. Even with an applied discount of RM12, the meal still did not represent good value for money.

Abacus Seeds – RM25.00
Yong Tau Foo (8 pieces) – RM40.00
Subtotal – RM65.00
Delivery Discount – -RM12.00
Total Bill – RM53.00
Score: 6.83/10
M – Meal Value
While the food quality is high, particularly the authentic abacus seeds, the pricing for the YTF is hard to justify. Paying RM5 per piece for YTF, even for premium meat, significantly impacts the overall value proposition.
Score: 5.5/10
V – Vroomness of Delivery
The order arrived quickly and it was only RM0.40.
Score: 7.0/10
X – X-Factor
The true X-factor is the authenticity of their Hakka recipes. Finding well-made abacus seeds with the right chewy texture is increasingly difficult, and Hakshan remains a reliable, if pricey, source for these traditional gems. I would skip the YTF next time and order other things on food delivery.
