Beach Club Induruwa Watalappan
Sri Lankan, Dessert
Chiefeater Paula Tan had a Watalappan, Sri Lanka's version of creme brûlée, at Beach Club Induruwa

Event Venue, Pork-Free
We’ve been driving past this pre-war corner lot on Tingkat Tong Shin for years, and it was sad to see it falling further into disrepair over time. Last week, however, we noticed new signs & lights on inside.. it appeared to have been refurbished and turned into a restaurant! We went over for dinner this evening, mainly to see the interior and had a nice chat with the operations manager, Alex Wong. He told us the building was built in 1937 and the owners had offered to collaborate with his restaurant, Limapulo.

Uniting two lots, the building also houses an outlet of Pattern Sutra which has boutiques at Bangsar Village & the LINC. Upstairs, the second level has been converted into a large event space. Being a lover of heritage buildings, I’m just thrilled to see this precious piece of the past brought back to life. Though it’s a work in progress and there’s still a lot to be done, the owners have started by honoring the building’s story with handpicked fittings & vintage furniture pieces sourced out by their designer from Kuching.

So much history & romance brought back.. a new life gifted to a place left empty for decades that I doubted could ever rival progress and the ravages of time.
