Nyonya
Lunch at Tanjung Bunga Nyonya Restaurant was a delightful exploration of traditional flavours. We were a party of three, which allowed us to sample several Nyonya staples like Inchi Kabin (Nyonya fried chicken), Ju Hu Char (stir-fried jicama with shredded cuttlefish), Nyonya Fried Rice, Lobak and Petai Sotong. All the dishes we tried were thoroughly enjoyable.
Inchi Kabin

Ju Hoo Char

Nyonya Fried Rice

Cendol

However, my absolute favourite was the Petai Sotong. The squid was exceptionally fresh and had a nice, firm bounce with each bite, while the petai was deliciously pungent.

Another highlight was the Lobak; it was prepared in an interesting style, fried to look like a crispy popiah on the outside. It was incredibly addictive and would make a lovely snack to pair with a cold beer.

Inchi Cabin Chicken: RM18.00
Petai Sotong: RM18.00
Lobak (2 pcs): RM13.00
Ju Hoo Char: RM25.00
Nyonya Fried Rice: RM12.20
Cendol R/Bean Ice: RM4.60
Total: RM107.58 (including drinks and 10% Service Charge)
Average Spend: RM35.86 per pax
Score: 7.83/10
M – Meal Value
For a spread of five main dishes and desserts shared among three, an average spend of roughly RM36 per head offers excellent value for authentic Nyonya cuisine. The freshness of the seafood, particularly the sotong, justifies the pricing.
Score: 8.2/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The restaurant provides a cozy home-style atmosphere. It’s a no-frills, comfortable spot that focuses on delivering consistent heritage flavours.
Score: 7.0/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor was the Petai Sotong and the crispy Lobak. Finding squid with that specific “bouncy” texture indicates high-quality sourcing, while the crisp lobak casing made it enjoyable.
Score: 8.3/10
