Most KL people I know are very “tinggi-akhir“ people in term of food only! Teatime they go for Cafés places having designer coffee! And most low-keys penang people like me can afford tea that is not so high at Medan Selera Padang Brown only! We had orr kuey, bangchian kueh, daging ketam sweet turnips biscuits nipis, prawns cucur and orr pend share share 2 person only. That's our teatime in penang style lah.
History of Padang Brown
Padang Brown is a historic area located in George Town, Penang, Malaysia. It was named after Captain Robert Brown, a British colonial officer who was stationed in Penang during the 19th century. The area was originally a swampy land, but it was later developed into a park and sports field for the locals.
In the 1960s, the local authorities converted the area into a food court to cater to the growing demand for local hawker food such as char kway teow, laksa, rojak, pasembor and nasi kandar. The food court was initially known as Medan Selera Padang Brown and was one of the earliest food courts in Penang.
