I had heard that the Char Kuey Teow at MJ Wang was worth a try. So today, using more technicality in mind, I asked for a plain plate of lieutenants duck eggs, and asked for my hum to be rare. I’m happy to report that most of that came through the final product with required wokhei - certainly top 15 in Klang Valley in books. If Robert’s is a 7.5, this is a strong, respectable 6.5.
It was so good in fact, that I decided to finish up only 75% of my Kai See Hor Fun to make room for 50% of this plate ckt. My first few bites (started with the KSHF first) were guarded and slow. But I ended up polishing the whole plate of ckt, oh and we had a mata kerbau (sunny side up) on each of our plates . Don’t ask why - think of it as a double egg (duck and chicken) combo.
Somehow this plate of CKT reminded me of the one I had with my then gf back in the early 2000s next to Sheraton Imperial. I recall those days, the nightlife was just starting.
Overall definitely one of the better plates of ckt in pj. If youre in MJ Wang for the KSHF (or Yang Ki beef), this is good central plate to share.
The Kai See Hor Fun looked legit with the distinctive orangey prawn head butter/oil floating on the bowl with essential condiments of fried onions, chives, shredded chicken and two sizeable prawns. The first slurp of the broth was above average . The broth was richly infused with sweetness and umami taste from the prawn head (butter)and shells, The prawns & chicken shreds were fresh and succulent. The KSHF is 7.5
