We were at SS2 to run an errand and since it was lunch time, we decided to look around for something to eat there. That's how we came upon Restoran Fong Yuen. They may be a relatively new name but the founder comes with pedigree in the F&B scene.
Jen's choice was the Chicken Rice. While the rice exuded a flavourful aroma, the chicken though was slightly tough and quite bony. The rice was good enough to eat on its own.
I had the Curry Mee, an exclusive treat available on select days (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday). The curry broth, rich and thick, danced on the taste buds, but the liberal use of MSG left a noticeable drying effect on my lips. This, however, is a subjective experience, and those unfazed by MSG's impact will find this dish an absolute delight. The roast pork option, unfortunately, was already claimed by eager patrons, a testament to its popularity. I had to settle for the curry broth with poached chicken. I think I would have enjoyed it more with roast pork.
The Sui Kow, a true gem in Fong Yuen's offerings, surpassed expectations. Generously sized and brimming with actual minced meat, these dumplings are a departure from the commonplace paste-filled counterparts. The burst of flavours within each bite left a lasting impression.
