Chiefeater Steven C T Tea shares his first Ayam Gepuk meal at Ayam Gepuk Artisan Sunway

Cantonese Fried, Street Food
A visit to the iconic Ah Wa Hokkien Mee stall at Restoran Paramount 86 (formerly known as Millennium Eighty Six) in Sea Park offered a clear winner between two classic noodle dishes. While this corner kopitiam is a neighborhood staple, the dinner experience highlighted a significant difference in technical execution between their offerings.
The Kung Fu Chau Ying Yong (Cantonese Fried Yin Yong) was the superior dish of the night. This “Yin Yong” preparation combines two distinct textures—broad flat rice noodles (hor fun) and crispy rice vermicelli (mee hoon) all smothered in a velvety, egg-based gravy.

In contrast, the Hokkien Mee was a disappointment. It lacked wok hei and seasoning of the better Hokkien Mee in town. While it was drier than the one at their HQ (which I usually prefer) the lack of seasoning really let it down.

Kung Fu Chau Ying Yong (2 pax portion) – RM25.00
Hokkien Mee (2 pax portion) – RM25.00
Score: 6.83/10
M – Meal Value**
At RM25 for a two-person portion, the pricing is fair for a casual dinner in Paramount Garden. However, the value is higher for the Kung Fu Chau, as the Hokkien Mee’s lack of flavor made it less satisfying.
Score: 7.0/10
V – Venue & Vibes
Restoran Paramount 86 is a classic, unpretentious kopitiam with a lively evening atmosphere.
Score: 6.5/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor here is the Kung Fu Chau but even then it’s not by much.
Score: 7.0/10
