Restoran Sin Kin Kok Old and New Favourites
Post by Chiefeater Khor Hui Min
A short walk from Kong Heng and Thean Chun, is Restoran Sin Kin Kok, a corner coffee shop. The highlight of this shop is a famous char kuay teow with a runny, semi-cooked egg. Back in the day, it was considered to be expensive too. But since it was passed down to the next generation, the taste is not the same, somewhat diminished, and the egg is now fully cooked. The kuay teow is now served in paper boxes too. But still can eat lah, still got wok hei. The nice beef noodle soup disappeared already.
The Chee Cheong Fun with teem zheong (red sweet sauce) was OK lah, quite nice.
The highlight of the shop in my most recent visit was the tarts sold by Ipoh Tart King. We ordered the original, pandan and Portuguese egg tarts. The original and pandan were smooth, soft, silky and delicious. No lumps, no cracks. The Portuguese egg tarts were nice too. Highly recommended to try if you like egg tarts. Would definitely buy them again.
