Hainanese, Chicken Chop, Non-Halal
A wise old man once told me - "A delicious lunch is a motivation to keep on striving". Today's trip took me to Kuala Sungai Baru in Melaka, and I meticulously planned my trip such that I will have lunch at my favourite restaurant there. That is Sing Mui Nam Restaurant.
The old establishment Hainan restaurant is located slightly hidden by the ramp of the bridge in Kuala Sungai Baru. Blink and you'll missed it. Run by an elderly husband & wife team, they whipped out delicious food in a wink.
We had pan fry prawns (干煎虾碌), soya sauce braised free range chicken, Teochew styled steamed red snapper fish (红鲷鱼) and our personal favourite Hainan chicken chop for lunch.
The pan fry prawns was fresh and bouncy, coated with a delightful sauce.
The free range chicken was braised with dark soya sauce, oyster sauce and with a aromatic whim of sesame oil. It's simple, delightful and reminiscent of my late mother's homely cooking style.
The red snapper was super fresh, steamed to perfection. With a handful shreds of preserved Chinese pickles, the broth was slightly tangy and savoury.
The version of the Hainan chicken chop here tends to be more like a sweet and sour type. The chicken breast was coated with batter flour, fried to a crispy coating, and drenched with a sweet and sour sauce that comes with the accompanying red bell peppers, cucumber, onions and slices of tomato.
Place could be a bit warm and slightly shaggy, price-wise was really very affordable.
