Prawn Mee, Street Food, Non-Halal
I was back at Shunfu Market @ Upper Thomson. There are a few meat & seafood stalls we can’t escape. And as usual with ANY Singapore housing estate – there’s a food court conveniently located nearby, in this case, upstairs. Quan Ann Prawn Mee caught my eye with its long lines! But waiting time wasn’t too long, thankfully.
Soup was clear and tasty, felt quite light and clean – I think this isn’t suited for those who love a super rich prawn soup. This had a more old school taste to it, and the soup felt more porky than prawny. I liked it tho, it hits the spot when you want prawn mee but don’t feel like having something so heavy. It’s like a summer broth version of your usual prawn noodles. Couple of special things about this outlet – you get a choice of mee pork mee kia on top of the usual noodles and most customers will order the dry version.
For SGD4, you get a decent portion that comes with 2 tail on shrimps, pork slices and bean sprouts. You can add extras for additional costs.

The dry version has its following: with lots and lots and lots of fried crisp lard , wicked home made chilli , fresh prawns and lean pork.

There are two prawn noodle stalls in this market. Quan Ann is the definitely the more nostalgic looking one to me. Both Quan Ann and Huat Heng (the other stall) have been doing battle for 20+ years. Quan Ann is the older brand (45+ years) starting from their Lake View days.
I went for the summer light version (soup) and my wife usually prefers konlou (dry) so she went for their ‘special’.
The dry version came out on top, hands down. Imagine a Kin Kin chilli pan mee in KL but with prawniness thrown in. And pork slices. 7.5/10
The soup version is a solid 6.5/10.
