Apom, Street Food
Ravi’s Claypot Apom at Swee Kong Coffee Shop, Pulau Tikus. Do come early!
This appom manis stall is considered legendary in Penang. It has a long history dating back to 1922, when it was started by Ravi’s father.
Ravi’s Claypot Appom Manis is regarded as a heritage hawker stall in Penang, perserving traditional flavour and cooking method.

The same recipe and cooking method have been passed down through the family. The old-school method of cooking the appom in small claypots over a charcoal fire is still practised here. This is something rarely seen nowadays, as most stalls use metal or non-stick pans with gas stoves instead. Cooking the appom in a claypot gives it a mild earthy aroma and distinctive flavour that metal pans cannot replicate.

Over the century, this appom business has remained entirely family-run, passed down the generations.

Ravi’s Claypot Apom Manis was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2025 and retained it in 2026. It is recognised as good quality food at an affordable price.

Soft, fluffy centre with crispy golden edges, giving Ravi’s appom its distinctive texture and aroma.

If you wish to taste the appom here, do come early, as it is usually sold out by 9.00 am or even earlier.
