Sake, Japanese, Non-Halal
Kitsuzo Izakaya held a special sake tasting session for members of the Xprienz Club recently. Alex, the proprietor, personally introduced us to 4 sakes which ranged from a junmai (made with a 30% polished rice) to a daiginjyo (made with a 50% polished rice).
Sake made with unpolished rice has a comparatively deeper, thicker taste, giving the impression of a strongly flavored sake with a noticeable smell of rice. But when sake is made using well-polished rice, the aroma is bright, with a flavor that leaves a light, clear impression (thanks to Sake Hiroshima for this explanation).
Alex started us with a junmai, a relatively mild sake with a 13.5% alcohol level. It was mild and so went down quite well for a starting drink. As we progressed through the night, the sake became more intense.
The best was saved for the last, the Sho Chiku Bai Shirakabegura Junmai Daiginjo (17.5% alcohol) which had a full bodied palate with a smooth velvety feel in the mouth. We had thought we could not drink anymore after the 3rd bottle, but when he served this we all had a second wind.
Order some fish and some skewers to go with the sake. It will go well together. Prices of the sake start at under RM160 and range upwards from there.
