Char Kuey Teow, Street Food, Pork-Free
On a day trip to Morib, I chanced upon Jipun Char Kuey Teow at Banting. The aroma was what hit me initially as I walked past the store. The cook / chef was busy frying at his wok. What was interesting was that he had 2 woks. One was for frying noodles. Another was for frying kuey teow. OCD habis! Plus the Google reviews (there were 135 reviews) had said this was the best Char Kuey Teow in Banting. Authentic and aromatic. They even have some press reviews featured on the wall. One by The Star dates back to 2011.
A plate of Char Kuey Teow at Jipun Char Kuey Teow is RM6. I had an egg added on top, which was an extra RM1.30. A glass of iced barley is RM1. All in RM8.30.

The Char Kuey Teow had a dark colour to it, which is similar to CKT I have seen in Klang or Jenjarom. While it had a fragrant smokey aroma, the CKT was somehow a bit bland. I suppose that’s why Jipun Char Kuey Teow had pepper and soy sauce at the table for patrons to season it to their preference. The best part of the dish was actually the egg.
It’s not the Char Kuey Teow for me. Are those people who gave the thumbs up review wrong? No. Jipun Char Kuey Teow serves their preferred style of CKT and who am I to say they are wrong.
If you like your barley almost without any sweetness, then this is the barley for you.
