Krua Thai has been a Puchong institution for more than a decade. It was one of the OG F&B outlets on Jalan Bandar 13 back when it was mainly car workshops or served as small warehouses or offices. Stepping into their shop, you could imagine that you have been transported to Yaowarat in Bangkok. Operated by a family of Thai of Chinese descent, you will feel right at home if you speak Thai.
They serve simple Thai street food dishes but do it so well. It’s a place that I hate to go because I will ALWAYS overeat.
Krua Thai is not a restaurant you want to visit if you are watching your weight. On a rare visit there, my wife and I ordered a Thai Chicken Coconut Soup (small - RM20), a Fried Fish Paste / Cake (small - RM18) and a plate of Thai Style Kangkong fried in Belacan (small - RM13)
The Coconut Soup was smothered in thick coconut flavour accompanied with a red chili which added colour and conflagration to the tongue. The Fried Fish Paste, while thinly sliced packs all of the flavour that is to be expected of a good Thai fish cake. The kangkong was crunchy and well seasoned without the Belacan overpowering the dish.
And while consuming all this, I was eyeing the noodles the group on the next table ordered. See what I mean about why I hate coming here?
My other grouse at Krua Thai, other than their food makes me overeat. They should serve better beer. Tiger doesn’t cut it.
PSA - they are packed on weekends. If you are short of cash, they take e-wallet payments
