Cubano, Sandwiches, Non-Halal
I have Chiefeater George Wong to thank for alerting me to the existence of Superfine KL several years ago. Since that first trip, it has been my go to place if I ever want to have a Cubano. It's a fancy name for a pork sandwich but with a special Cuban touch. Hence the name Cubano.
That special touch is the Mojo roasted pork shoulder. Mojo is typically a sauce made with the juice of sour oranges, with garlic, oregano , cumin, pepper mixed into an oil. This is then used to marinate the meat. The zesty, tangy and peppery flavours infuses into the pork meat to complement with its savouriness. Other ingredients that Superfine KL uses in their Cubano include chicken salami, coriander aioli, provolone cheese, gherkins, yellow mustard on sourdough.
If that hasn't made your mouth water yet, you will when you sink your teeth into it. The meat is moist and succulent. The textures are a mix of meat, sauce, cheese and chewy bread with crunchy crust. The flavours all come together from the savoury to the tangy.
Their Cubano is priced at RM32++ which doesn't sound cheap. I won't question the price because of the effort and the ingredients that go into making it.
To top it off, you can pair your Cubano with coffee, craft beer or better yet, wine at Superfine KL! I like the wine pairing. I had a crisp white wine which I felt went well with the Cubano.
The ++ is for a 10% service charge and the 6% SST.
