Fico Dinner
Fine Dining, Non-Halal
Chiefeater Eddie Low celebrates his friend's dinner with a fine dine meal at Fico which he has not been back to for 5 years
Roast Duck, Non-Halal
Dai Cha Dim positions itself as a casual style Hong Kong char chan teng serving noodles, buns and roast duck and roast pork. Other than Pavilion Bukit Jalil, they have outlets at Pavilion KL and Damen.
It was dinner for 4 of us so and we were feeling hungry. We decided to order more things to try at Dai Cha Dim. We had Stir Fried Sliced Beef with Ginger & Spring Onions (RM29.80++), Chilled Bean Curd with Fried Onion (RM16.80++), Stir Fried Kai Lan with Dried Turbot (RM17.80++), Stir Fried Long Beans with Minced Pork (RM18.80++), a bowl of Black Vinegar Pork Trotter (RM25.80++) and a 1/4 portion of Roasted Duck (RM32.80++), Pork Lard rice (RM4++ per bowl) and Chinese Tea (RM4++ per pax)
Let's focus on the dish that we liked at Dai Cha Dim. The Long Beans was the winner of the meal. It was crunchy yet with enough firmness that made it easy enough to bite. The seasoning had gone well into the vegetable itself and we enjoyed this dish. The pork lard rice was a visual delight as well as an appetite enhancer.
The Chilled Bean Curd was doused with a complementary sauce that matched the fried onions. The Kai Lan was competent.
The other dishes missed the mark. The Roast Duck lacked any gamey taste in it. The hint of gaminess in the meat is the reasons why I enjoy having duck. The Black Vinegar broth tasted good but the pork trotter that came with it lacked almost any taste in it. The Stir Fried Sliced Beef was well seasoned and tasted good. The meat however was overcooked and was tough.
The total bill at Dai Cha Dim for 4 came up to RM192.35 and I wish I could find more things to like about the meal other than the Long Beans and the Pork Lard Rice.
