Chinese New Year, Non-Halal
Peninsula Chinese Cuisine provided the setting for our second-day Chinese New Year lunch. Many Chinese restaurants were closed this year and Peninsula was among those that remained open.

Among the dishes presented, one stood out above the rest—the pomfrets steamed in soy sauce. While many establishments have turned to Patin fish as their main seafood offering, Peninsula remained faithful to the classic pomfrets. Each bite brought back memories of Chinese restaurants from decades past, evoking a sense of nostalgia and comfort.

Another highlight of the meal was the succulent pork knuckle, known as yuen tai. This was my first encounter with this dish in a Chinese New Year set menu this year, and it did not disappoint. The tender meat and flavourful sauce left a lasting impression, showcasing the chef’s skill and attention to detail.

However, despite these two dishes, I couldn’t help but feel that the overall experience at Peninsula Chinese Cuisine fell short of expectations when considering the price. With a total bill of RM1,700, inclusive of taxes, service charges, and a few cans of soda water (we brought our own gin), the value and quality did not quite measure up. While the food was enjoyable, I had anticipated a more exceptional culinary journey given the cost.
