A scenic and winding route to Pahang's east coast from the Klang valley involves going through the low foothills of Negeri Sembilan. Going past the small and scenic towns of Kuala Pilah and Jempol and then through hours of wilderness and plantations before popping out near Kuala Rompin town. One of my favorite iron-bottom motorcycle rides is to head to Kuala Rompin for a simple seafood lunch before riding back, all in one day. Qaseh Udang Galah has been my beachside lunch spot for a few of these rides.
The fried seafood in a simple batter is fresh and the prices are very affordable (RM10 for a plate of prawns and RM3 for a single fish). Note that the large river prawns are seasonal so availability and prices will vary over time at Qaseh Udang Galah. Most of these are pre-cooked: I would recommend heading down to Sedili in Johor or to northern Terengganu if you want seafood fried to order.
The curry mee was surprisingly flavorful with a thick, spicy gravy and big chunks of chicken. The accompanying sambal sauce turns up the heat in case you like it extremely hot.
There are gazebos if you want a more authentic open-air dining experience near the beach and the sea itself is about a hundred meters away. Plenty of parking available under casuarina trees.
