Char Kuey Teow, Street Food, Non-Halal
Beng Chin Garden, a kopitiam that is well patronized by locals as well as tourists as it located near the Kek Lok Si Temple. 'Kong Long' literally means 'Dinosaur' but there is no fierce prehistoric giant here, just a sizable proprietor dishing out the most famous hawker food in Penang, char koay teow.
It is one of the many stalls in a cramped kopitiam at a busy road junction in Ayer Itam.
Besides char koay teow, other types of fried noodles are also available.
Kong Long Char Koay Teow, a standard serving with egg, prawns, Chinese sausage, chives, bean sprouts and cockles @ RM8.00.
The ingredients include fresh prawns, cockles, Chinese sausage, chives, garlic and chilli paste.
The proprietor is not only friendly but he listens intently to his customers' special requests like "mai ham, mai lap cheong, mai huan chio, mai tau geh, mai nui, keh luak, keh liao, kiam eu" etc. Courteous Penang hawkers like him deserve our support and patronage. Personally, his char koay teow is good and measuring up to the expected Penang standard.
A 'customized' serving with no chilli, no Chinese sausage and no cockles. Slices of fishcake are added instead.
